How to Get CNA Certification

Certified Nursing Assistants or CNAs, also known as nursing aides, are directly supervised by nurses and other top medical professionals. This profession in the medical field with CNA Certification provides basic services to patients such as feeding, bathing and dressing.

For those thinking of a career as a certified nursing assistant, getting the needed training is a process that could be lengthy and rigorous one. From technical schools and other college training to accredited hospital training to online classes, understanding the skills necessary to become a CNA can be a highly demanding task. Completing the training required to become a CNA, however, is not the final stage of your pursuit of this career path. To be a full-pledged CNA, each student should first meet the requirements of CNA Certification through passing the licensure exams.

Aside from these basic patient services, CNAs are also trained with elementary health services and skills such as taking blood pressure, monitor pulse and heart rate and also first aid. CNAs are more in contact with the patient than other professionals in the medical field. This profession is lucrative in hospitals, specialized health care facilities, clinics and other health institutions.

CNAs can work 40 to 50 hours every week or according to the demand of the health care facility. However, part-time work shift are also offered because of the available hours. This job is quite demanding and often CNAs are always on the move on the majority of their work hours. CNAs must also protect themselves against health risk such as contamination with diseases carried by their patients. The major tasks of a CNA could include basic tasks such as taking care of dirty beddings, rationing food and other tasks in the hospital. However, most tasks are satisfying such as meeting different patients and helping them take care of their health.

Most US states require training programs in order to work as a CAN. This could include about 90 hours of training ending into a certification. You can get information for the state requirements through the registry in the health department of your state. Most CNAs get their training programs in high school or community colleges. There are also technical and vocational schools offering CNA programs with advanced health training facilities and Red Cross Accreditation and First Aid Training.

Subjects in a regular CNA program could include life sciences, chemistry, oral communication, patient care, infection control and other elementary nursing courses.

The median rate per hour in the United States for CNAs is about $ 15. However, this rate can vary according to the experience and the state. The demand for CNA is great. This is also the right opportunity to enter the medical professions.

If you are looking for a permanent job and you want to experience working in the medical field, CNA certification could help you. This is a field when you need sheer determination and good training. There are however some requirements that should be suited before starting into a CNA training program. All US state would require that you be at least 18 years old. Varying on the state you are living and would like to work as a CNA, a high school diploma is also needed.
